As stated by Pierre Jerome, the Hillside Art teacher, the main goals for the classes depend on the level of art class that the students have. Mr. Jerome said that for the Art One class the main goals are to teach his students how to use the principles of art and design within their drawings.
In a totally different type of teaching Mr. Jerome said that for the advanced classes he is teaching a more out of the box thing by making post modernist art (a futuristic and more modern art), but still working with basics. As for the his IB class, they are working in based on the 30 Americans Art Show.
Mr. Jerome expressed that he is trying to make art more relevant to students, and create a stronger art department as well as activities such as field trips. As for the Art Club, Jerome said that they try to create a family within the club.
Mr. Jerome said that the Art Club is open to everyone who wants to join, but they want to become more structured as well as joining the Art Honors society (National Art Club). But Jerome said also that the Art Club is not only about drawing and painting but to eat pizza because he said, “Pizza is the cream of the pie”.
It’s also a place to learn how to draw and to learn how to do more detailed art. Mr. Jerome said that they also want to create holiday cards to have an Art Club fund.
