Many students might wonder when walking down the hallway, “What is the purpose or meaning of the IB mural on the wall?” Let us look at the explanation from teachers at Hillside High School.

Hillside Art Teacher Pierre Jerome said, “The mural on the wall is to show the pathway of going to college and not going to college.” Mr. Jerome said that to him the mural could have been more completed, having more details in the background. It was created during the summer, in the month of July.

Mr. Jerome said some of the students who worked on the mural were Erica Holloway, Yuri Jeter and Demarcus Boone.

IB Coordinator Angelia McKoy said that the mural is to invite more people to the IB hallway and the AP hallway. Ms. McKoy also said that the mural aims to make it a more inviting place to attract students.

Ms. McKoy said the mural was put up to bring people into the program.

Junior Demarcus Boone said that Mr. Jerome asked some students to paint the mural with him during the summer. Boone also said that everything turned out great and in his perspective it shows a knowledge of good education and a preparation for the real world.

Boone said that the mural shows the top colleges in North Carolina and famous buildings from all over the world.

The mural is designed to show students the paths they can take in life, Mr. Jerome explained. It shows college as a shining place outside a dull city.
