Students in Sarah Bausell’s AP English 3 class were given the opportunity to send their stories to a writer and have them reviewed. The students sent in stories where they turned current events into interesting tales.
Krystal Mason is the writer who is reviewing the AP students’ stories and giving the students a one-page response. Ms. Mason studies artists in the South. She lives in Chicago and writes curriculum for local art galleries.
When the students found out they had this opportunity, they were “very excited, it made them want to do better,” Ms. Bausell said.
The assignment was to write a short story based on an article they read by Joy O. Conner.
Gabrielle Grant, a junior at Hillside High School, said she was happy to have this opportunity so she could express herself.
Here’s a quote from Grant’s story: “His malicious act would play over and over, again and again in her head like an eight track back in the day.”
Grant said she received “decent feedback” from Ms. Mason.
