Coach Crasten Davis in his first season at Hillside

By Collyn Anderson
Staff Writer

Coach Crasten Davis is in his first year as the Hillside High School basketball coach after coaching at Shepard Middle School.

Coach Davis said coaching high school is very different because the season is longer. He said, “Coaching from game to game was very challenging at first”.

Coach Davis said last year’s team was very young, and the guys who played last year learned from last year’s team. He said, “Once we play team ball we are hard to beat.”

Regarding who he counts on to carry the team, Coach Davis said, “Once you show up to a game you never really know who is going to win the game for us.”

Coach Davis said pre-season workouts this year were very important for this team. “The hardest thing was to change the workout habit,” he said. “The players had 6 a.m. workouts sometimes when they did not even touch a ball, which taught them discipline, which was the key for this year’s team.”

Coach Davis said the team is focused on winning the conference. They were 6-3 after beating Jordan on Jan. 31. “My guys need to concentrate on their weaknesses the most, which would make them a better team in the long run.”

“Overall, Hillside athletics have a ton of athletes, and it is the premiere school in the area for D1 talent,” he added.
